Newly Inaugurated Supiori DPRK Members Urged to Prioritize Public Interests

Thelandofpapua.com – The Government of Supiori Regency, Papua Province, has called on the 25 newly inaugurated members of the Supiori Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRK) to prioritize the interests of the people, emphasizing their role as true representatives of the community.

During the swearing-in ceremony held this week, Supiori Regional Secretary Ferra Wanggai highlighted the critical role of DPRK members in supporting the progress of the region through the formation of regional regulations, budget planning, and oversight functions.

Commitment to Public Welfare

“As the extension of the community, it is expected that DPRK members will prioritize public interests in every stage of budget planning so that the outcomes genuinely reflect the needs and aspirations of the people,” stated Ferra Wanggai.

Wanggai also extended congratulations to the newly sworn-in DPRK members for the 2024-2029 period. The inauguration ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Chief Judge of the Biak District Court, Gracely Novendra Manuhutu.

In addition, she expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to the 20 outgoing DPRK members for their dedicated service to the people of Supiori.

Encouraging Collaboration and Effective Governance

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the DPRK Supiori, Drs. Wilson Wadiwe, conveyed his gratitude to the previous council members and congratulated the newly elected representatives.

“We hope that DPRK members can work collaboratively to develop Supiori through well-structured policies and governance mechanisms,” Wadiwe remarked.

Inclusion of Otsus Representatives

Among the 25 inaugurated members, five were appointed through the Special Autonomy (Otsus) mechanism, representing indigenous Papuan communities. These members include Frenci Wadiwe, Esau Baab, Yulia Kafiar, Stevanus Sarakan, and Agustinus Sawen.

The participation of Otsus representatives is expected to ensure that policies and programs cater to the unique cultural and socio-economic needs of indigenous communities in Supiori.

With the new council members taking office, expectations are high for their commitment to fostering regional development and upholding the public interest throughout their tenure.
