The Strategic Role of Indonesian Students in Facing Geopolitical Challenges and Strengthening Pancasila: Steve Mara’s Message to the Youth of Papua and All Indonesians

JAYAPURA – Steve Mara, author of We All Want To Live in Peace, shared crucial insights on the global geopolitical challenges that could impact Indonesia’s sovereignty at the 17th International Symposium of the World Student Association (SI PPI Dunia) held in Bursa, Turkey, on September 11, 2025.

During the event, Steve emphasized to all Indonesian students worldwide their critical role in safeguarding national security and upholding Pancasila as the foundation of the nation. According to Steve, the youth of Indonesia, particularly from Papua and other regions, are vital agents of change inseparable from Indonesia’s national defense. They must understand and protect Indonesia’s unity as the key to facing various threats, both internal and external.

Steve also discussed the threats arising from global geopolitical shifts, including horizontal conflicts among communities, tensions between the public and government, and the potential for international armed conflicts. He highlighted that all these pose significant threats to Indonesia, which must be addressed through the active role of students in spreading valuable information to foster peace.

In this era of change, Steve stressed the importance of students’ role in confronting the “cognitive war,” a battle of ideas that could undermine the values of Pancasila. Indonesian students, including the Indigenous Papuans (OAP), are reminded to protect and strengthen the position of Pancasila, as it serves as the philosophical foundation that unites all Indonesians, without exception.

Steve concluded his message by expressing appreciation for the youth who continue to fight for the noble values of Pancasila, demonstrating that the opportunity to contribute to safeguarding sovereignty and global peace belongs to every citizen, including all the people of Papua.
