The Vice Governor of South Papua, Paskalis Imadawa, emphasized that the Student Talent and Interest Competition (MBS), organized by the Education and Culture Department of South Papua, is not just about showcasing skills, but a platform to prove that the youth of South Papua have extraordinary potential that deserves full attention and support.
In his closing remarks, Imadawa recognized the perseverance and determination shown by the participants throughout the competition. “You are not only representing your schools or regions but have become a symbol of hope for a brighter South Papua. Congratulations to those who won, and to those who didn’t, remember that today’s setback is merely a stepping stone for your future,” he said.
The Head of the Education and Culture Department of South Papua, Ignas Babaga, highlighted that the MBS aims to discover and cultivate the best talents for the future, particularly among students, ensuring that their potential is nurtured for national and global opportunities.
Olivia Koneng, the Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee, shared that the MBS competition featured events like the National Student Sports Olympiad (O2SN), the National Arts and Literature Festival (FLS3N), and competitions for Students with Special Needs (PDKK). The PDKK included both sports and arts events, ensuring inclusion and diversity in the competition.
Looking ahead, Koneng announced that the competition will continue in September 2025 with the Gala Siswa event and boys’ soccer at the junior high school level. Additionally, the 32 students who secured first place in the three main categories, including PDKK, will represent South Papua at the national level.
“According to the guidelines, the O2SN competition will be conducted virtually, and we will submit recorded videos. The FLS3N competition will be held in person,” Koneng explained.
Vice Governor Paskalis Imadawa further stressed the importance of continued support for the children, especially those in their formative years. “It is crucial that all stakeholders collaborate to support our children because they are the future of our province, our region, and our beloved Papua. This responsibility should not be placed solely on the shoulders of the Education Department,” he added.
The MBS event clearly reflects the potential of Papua’s youth and the collective effort to ensure they grow in an environment that nurtures their talents and aspirations. It is not only a celebration of their abilities but a powerful statement that the children of Papua have the potential to succeed, given the right support and guidance. As they step forward into a brighter future, their growth in academics, sports, and the arts will surely lead to great achievements for Papua and Indonesia as a whole.
