Timika, Indonesia – August 2025 — The Sekolah Asrama Taruna Papua (SATP) in Timika continues to make waves in the world of education by sending five of its most promising students to the Provincial Science Olympiad (OSN) of Central Papua, set to take place in Nabire on August 14. This marks another milestone in SATP’s mission to nurture Papuan excellence and elevate the region’s presence on the national academic stage.
Among the selected participants, four are junior high school students—Rockim Magal and Omi Miagoni competing in Mathematics, and Arifin Omabak along with Ega Wefako in Science. Representing the elementary school level is Petronela Yulivia Mitoro, who will compete in the Social Studies category.
“Our goal is to have at least one student qualify for the national OSN competition. We are committed to helping them rise to that challenge,” said Sonianto Kuddi, Head of SATP Timika.
SATP, founded by the Amungme and Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation (YPMAK) in partnership with PT Freeport Indonesia, has rapidly become a symbol of educational empowerment and transformation in Eastern Indonesia. The school is operated by Yayasan Pendidikan Lokon, a trusted institution headquartered in Tomohon, North Sulawesi.
To support their journey, SATP has launched intensive, full-day academic coaching programs, ensuring each student receives personalized mentorship. These sessions are conducted by experienced educators and designed not only to strengthen subject mastery but also to boost confidence and critical thinking—essential skills in any global competition.
“We’re preparing at the dormitory, going through practice questions. If we get stuck, our teachers guide us so we can better understand,” shared Ega Wefako, a seasoned competitor in academic contests. “I’m ready to give my best and represent my school with pride.”
SATP is more than a school—it is a center for talent development. Through its dedicated Center of Excellence, students receive structured preparation to compete at regional, national, and even international levels. The institution actively promotes a balance between academic rigor and character building, believing that education should be both inclusive and transformative.
This year’s participation in the OSN is not just about medals—it’s a bold statement that Papua’s youth are ready for the global stage. With their talent, resilience, and relentless support system, these five students symbolize a rising generation of scholars from Eastern Indonesia, eager to leave a mark on the world.
