Government Conducts On-Site Review of Development Programs and Public Services in Papua

The central government conducted an on-site review of development programs and public services in Papua through a working visit by Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk, to Biak Numfor Regency, Papua Province, and Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Highlands Province.

The visit aimed to ensure that national priority programs are being implemented as planned and that their benefits are directly felt by local communities. The review focused on key sectors including education, food security, fisheries, and the strengthening of local economic activities.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk stated that the presence of the central government in the region is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination with regional governments, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), and community leaders in support of effective and sustainable development in Papua.

In Biak Numfor Regency, the Vice President and the Deputy Minister visited Senior Secondary People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Atas/SRMA) 41. The visit was conducted to observe the utilization of educational facilities and the readiness of supporting infrastructure in the teaching and learning process.

The delegation also inspected Fandoi Fish Market and cold storage facilities managed by the Biak Numfor Fisheries Office. This activity was related to efforts to strengthen the fisheries sector and to ensure smooth distribution and price stability of marine products.

Following the agenda in Biak Numfor, the delegation continued the visit to Wamena. In the capital of Papua Highlands Province, the Vice President visited the Itlay Ikinia Education Field Stadium and engaged with children from the Wamena Football School (SSB) during a joint sports activity.

During the visit to Wamena, the government also held meetings with local government officials, members of Forkopimda, and community leaders of Jayawijaya Regency. These meetings were intended to strengthen coordination and align development programs with local needs and conditions.

In addition, the Vice President met with local creative economy actors to listen to their aspirations and encourage the development of economic activities based on regional potential. The delegation also visited Potikelek Market to observe trading activities and the distribution of basic commodities.

On the same occasion, Deputy Minister Ribka Haluk engaged in dialogue with local residents to receive feedback and input regarding public services and development efforts in the area.

The visit concluded with a review of the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals Program (Program Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG) at State Senior High School 1 Wamena. The review focused on infrastructure readiness, service implementation, and the program’s benefits for students.

Overall, the working visit formed part of the government’s direct monitoring of development program implementation in Papua, while also reinforcing coordination between central and regional authorities in supporting community welfare improvement.
