KPU Papua Pegunungan Holds Drawing of Candidate Numbers for 2024 Governor Election

Thelandofpapua.com – The Papua Pegunungan Provincial General Election Commission (KPU) has officially conducted the drawing of candidate numbers for the 2024 Papua Pegunungan Governor Election.

The two pairs of candidates vying for the positions of Governor and Vice Governor received their official numbers during an open plenary meeting held at the Sartika Hotel in Wamena City, Jayawijaya Regency.

Melkianus Kambu, the Commissioner of KPU Papua Pegunungan, emphasized the significance of this event as part of the 2024 Simultaneous Elections.

“Today is the stage for the drawing and determination of candidate numbers for the Governor and Vice Governor of Papua Pegunungan Province in the 2024 simultaneous elections. This is the first election in this newly developed and beloved province,” Kambu remarked during his address.

The drawing process was conducted according to the order in which the candidates registered. The pair Befa Yigibalom and Natan Pahabol, who registered on August 28, 2024, at 13:38 WIT, had the first opportunity to draw their number.

Their rivals, Jhon Tabo and Ones Pahabol, registered a day later on August 29, 2024, at 12:33 WIT, and drew their number second.

As a result, the pair Jhon Tabo and Ones Pahabol were assigned the number 1, while Befa Yigibalom and Natan Pahabol received the number 2. Both pairs have expressed their commitment to maintaining a peaceful campaign atmosphere and adhering to all the procedures set forth by the KPU.

“We are committed to conducting a peaceful campaign and respecting the democratic process in its entirety. Our aim is to foster a better future for Papua Pegunungan,” said both candidates in a joint statement after the drawing.

This gubernatorial election holds special significance, as it marks the first in Papua Pegunungan since the province’s formation. All eyes will be on the two candidate pairs as they present their vision for the development and future leadership of the province.
