Regional Government Emphasizes Stability and Extends Condolences Following Incident in Maybrat

Sorong— The Provincial Government of Southwest Papua has expressed condolences following a security incident in Maybrat Regency that resulted in the loss of two Indonesian Navy personnel while carrying out their duties.

Governor of Southwest Papua, Elisa Kambu, stated that the provincial government, together with the Maybrat Regency administration, visited to provide moral support and prayers for the families of the victims.

“We extend our deepest condolences and offer our support to the families,” Elisa Kambu said in Sorong.

The regional government emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe and conducive security environment, while encouraging all parties to avoid actions that could lead to further harm. Strengthening coordination and consolidation among stakeholders is considered essential in supporting regional stability.

In recent months, several security-related incidents have occurred in parts of Southwest Papua. This underscores the need for continued collaboration between the government, security forces, and the community to maintain order and stability.

The government also encourages active community participation in maintaining local security, along with improved communication among stakeholders to prevent escalation.

The incident took place in Sori Village, South Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, on Sunday morning. In addition to the two personnel who lost their lives, another service member was reported injured and is currently receiving medical treatment at the Indonesian Navy Hospital (RSAL) Dr. R. Oetojo in Sorong.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of continued efforts to ensure safety and security in Southwest Papua through coordination, caution, and community engagement.
