Jayapura (ANTARA) — Member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Yan P. Mandenas, expressed optimism for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in Papua under the new leadership of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). He highlighted the opportunity to further improve the program so that its benefits can be fully realized by students and local communities.
“The appointment of new leadership at BGN reflects the government’s commitment to continuously evaluate and strengthen strategic programs, ensuring that every student receives maximum benefit,” Yan Mandenas said in Jayapura on Wednesday (3/6).
He emphasized that MBG plays a vital role in supporting students’ nutritional needs while nurturing a healthy, intelligent, and productive generation, contributing toward Indonesia Emas 2045. The program is seen as a key instrument for building a brighter future for young Papuans.
Yan also stressed the importance of focusing on all aspects of the program, from menu planning and food preparation to distribution at participating schools, especially in remote areas with unique geographical challenges. Effective and carefully managed implementation will ensure that every student can enjoy nutritious meals consistently.
Moreover, the program has the potential to create positive economic impacts for local communities by sourcing ingredients locally, supporting small-scale producers, and fostering sustainable development in each region.
“We hope this transition in leadership becomes a momentum to enhance the quality and reach of MBG in Papua, making it more equitable and impactful for students and their families,” Yan added.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto relieved Dadan Hindayana as Head of BGN effective June 2, 2026. The position is now held by Nanik S. Deyang, former Deputy Head of BGN, reinforcing the government’s dedication to improving oversight and effectiveness of this essential national program.
